QuestionAnswer
cm -> mm... X10!
The number of protons in an atom = The atomic number and number of electrons
What is mass and what units does it use? How much matter is in an object; mg, kg, and g
What is volume and what units does it use? Amount of space; ml, L, and cm3
What is density and what units does it use? Mass in a given volume; g/ml and g/cm3
How do you find the volume of an irregular shaped object? DISPLACEMENT; fill a graduated cylinder with set amount of water, add object then subtract the difference.
The subscript of a chemical equation= Number of atoms in the equation
What is a Compound molecule? More than one type of an element in a molecule
What is a safe way to smell an object? WAFT! Don't put near nose -fan fumes
What does it mean when objects are in the same group? What are groups? The number of v. electrons and the react chemically similar; up and down on the periodic table
What does it mean when objects are in the same period? What are periods? The number of energy levels; left to right on the periodic table
Proton charge... +
Electron charge... -
Neutron charge.. 0
The coefficient of a chemical equation= Number of molecules in the equation
Which of the following is a chemical change? Sharpening a pencil, Water evaporating, Burning a pencil, Mixing sand and water, rusting steel, spray painting a car, melting ice cream, mixing lemon juice and baking soda, freezing water, and tearing paper. Burning a pencil, Rusting steel and mixing lemon juice and baking soda
What are the five evidences of chemical reaction? 1. Gas produced 2. Temperature change 3. Solid precipitate formed 4. Color change ( unexpected) 5. Light produced
What evidence shows the following? Photosynthesis, Decomposing, Fireworks, pouring hydrogen peroxide on a wound. Solid participate formed- sugars created Temperature change- puts off heat Light produced Gas produced- bubbles and fizzes
What is the Law of Conservation of Mass? Matter is never created or destroyed, only changed
Distance= Speed x Time
Force= Mass x acceleration
How do you find average speed? Total distance/ total time
How do you tell the difference between a speed graph and an acceleration graph? Speed graphs y=distance and x=time; line going up is forward, down is backward, flat is stopped. Acceleration graphs y=speed x=time; line going up is positive acceleration, line going down is negative acceleration, a flat line is constant speed.
What is Newton's first law? Law of Inertia; An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay at motion until acted upon by an unbalanced force
What is Newton's second law? Law of Force and Acceleration; The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied to it
What is Newton's third law? Law of Action/Reaction; for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is/ what causes a sea breeze? A breeze from the sea; Land heats up faster, cool air from the sea moves towards the land- Day
What is/ what causes a land breeze? A breeze from the land; Land cools quicker than water causing a convection current cool air moves towards sea- night
How do warm ocean currents effect coastal climates? Warmer climate
How do cold ocean currents effect coastal climates? Colder climate
What is an air mass? a large body of air takes on similar temperatures and humidity
Air pressure goes from______ to ______ high to low
high pressure spins.. clockwise
low pressure spins... counter-clockwise
Weather associated with low pressure: Warm; high humidity
Weather associated with high pressure: Cold; low humidity
Warm air over cold.. (same direction) Warm front- light rain for a few days, humid, and warm- semi circles
Cold air under warm.. (different direction) Cold front- thunderstorms and afterwards clear skies, dry, and cold-triangles
Cold over warm... (same direction) Stationary front-lots of clouds, rain, fog- semi circles and triangles different sides
Warm caught between 2 cold air masses... Occluded front- cloudy and rainy, cold near ground -semi circles and triangles on the same side
