elements of poetry vocabulary

rhyme scheme | the pattern of rhymes at the end of each line in a poem. ex.A,B,A,B or 1,2,1,2 |
meter | comes from rhythm, the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables |
stanza | groups of lines within a poem without spaces; much like a paragraph in a story |
line break | when a line of poetry ends; usually a space found between stanzas |
rhyme | words that have the same ending sound |
repetition | words of phrases repeated within the text |
short line length | a line that is shorter than those around it |
imagery | visually descriptive or figurative language |
tone | the mood of the poem |
