TermDefinition
weathering the physical and chemical breakdown of rocks and minerals into smaller pieces.
mechanical weathering Mechanical weathering is the set of various processes of weathering that break apart rocks into particles (sediment).
chemical weathering the breakdown of rock by chemical mechanisms.
soil the portion of the earth's surface consisting of disintegrated rock and humus.
organic matter refers to the large pool of carbon-based compounds found within natural and engineered, terrestrial and aquatic environments.
erosion the process by which wind, water, ice, gravity, or other natural forces move sediment over Earth's surface.
roots a plant organ that takes in water,ice,gravity,or other sediment over earths surface.
topograghy the physical features which define the relief of a landscape, such as mountains, valleys, and the shapes of land forms.
deposit an amount of rock or soil that has been laid down in an area; (v) to drop; to lay down (related word: deposition).
