words and definations that will help on the STAAR test

TermDefinition
Convey to communicate or express thought
Stanza an arrangement of a certain number of lines, often with a fixed number of words, forming part of a poem
Genre categories of literature (drama, realistic fiction, informational, nonfiction, poem, etc.)
Autobiography a story written about a person's own life
Conclude to come to a decision by inferring or reasoning
Evidence information from the text that you use to prove your answer
Selection a portion of a text or story
Narrator the person speaking in the story or poem
Purpose the reason an author wrote the story or selection
Main Idea what the selection or story is mainly about
Supporting details information from the text or selection that helps reinforce the main idea
Passage an article or story you read and answer questions about
