Cahs Bio 2 Ch. 35-1

major facts in Bio 2 Ch. 35-1

QuestionAnswer
What are the four types of tissue? Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, and Nervous
List the names of all eleven body systems? Integumentary, Nervous, Skeletal, Muscle,Reproductive, Endocrine, Digestive, Respiratory, Lymphatic, circulatory, excretory
What are the levels of organization in a multicellular organism? Tissues, Cells, Organs, Organ systems
What are specialized cells? Cells uniquely suited to perform a particular function.
What is homeostasis? The process by which an organism keeps their internal environment relatively consistent despite changes in their environment.
What is feedback inhibition? Feedback inhibition or negative feedback, is a process in which a stimulus is produced to oppose the original stimulus.
Explain the way in which thermostats do feedback inhibition? The thermostat reacts to changes in temperature. Hence, when the temperature decreases, the termostat turns on the heating system. When the temperature increases, the thermostat turns off the heating system.
what part of the brain controls the temperature of the body's surface and inside? the hypothalamus
What are two ways in which the body responds to cold temperature? When your body becomes too cold the hypothalamus releases chemicals that signal muscles to shiver. The hypothalamus may also release chemicals that signal cells throughout the body to speed up cellular activities.
Name one organ. Eye or brain
What is epithelial tissue? It includes glands and tissues that cover the interior and exterior body suraces.
What does connective tissue do? It provides support for the body and connects its parts.
What does nervous tissue do? It transmits nerve impulses throughout the body.
What does muscles tissue do? Along with bones, it enables the body to move.
What are cells? A cell is the basic unit of structure and function in living celss
What are tissues? A group of cells that perform a single function.
What are organs? A group of different tissues that work together to perform a single function.
What are organ systems? A group of organs that perform closely related functions.
If your body is too hot, what are two ways in which your body responds? Body produces sweat which cools the surface of the body. In addition, the hypothalamus may release chemicals that signal the body to slow down their cellular activities ( and this is also the reason why people feel sluggish on hot days)
If hypo- is greek for "under," what does hypothermia mean Underheated, or the body is not hot enough, or the body is too cold.
What is the function of the nervous system? Recognizes and coordinates the body's response to changes in its internal and external environments
What is the function of the excretory system? Eliminates waste products from the body in ways that maintain homeostasis
What is the function of the skeletal system Supports the body; protects internal organs; allows movement; stores mineral reserves; provides a site for blood celll formation
What is the function of the integumentary system? Serves as a barrior against infection and injury; helps to regulate body temperature;provides protection against ultraviolet radiation from the sun
What is the function of the muscular system? Works with the skeletal system to produce voluntary movement; helps to circulate blood and move food through the digestive system
What is the function of the respiratory system? Provides oxygen needed for cellular respiration and removes excess carbon dioxide from the body.
What is the function of the ciculatory system? Brings oxygen, nurtrients, and hormones to cells; fights infection; removes cell wastes helps to regulate body temperature
What is the function of the digestive system? Converts foods into simpler molectules that can be used by the cells of the body;absorbs food; eliminates wastes.
What is the function of th4e circulatory system? Brings oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells; fights infection removes cell wastes helps to regulate body temperature
What is the function of the endocrine system? Controls growth, development, and metabolism; maintains homeostasis
What is the function of the reproductive system? Produces reproductive cells in females, nurtures and protects developing embryo
what is the function of the lymphatic/immune system? Helps protedct the body from disease collects fluid lost from blood vessels and returns the fluid to the circulatory system?

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
