|---|---|
| Wavelength | The distance between two corresponding parts of a wave |
| Vibration | A repeated back and forth or up and down motion that creates a wave |
| Ultraviolet Waves | Waves that are shorter than visible light waves |
| Trough | Lowest point of a wave |
| Transverse Waves | Motion of particles is up and down at right angles |
| Amplitude | Distance a wave rises or falls from its rest position |
| Crest | Highest point of a wave |
| Diffraction | The bending of waves around the edge of a barrier |
| Electromagnetic Waves | Combination of alternating electric and magnetic fields |
| Frequency | Number of waves passing a given point in a period of time |
| Hertz | Wave measurement equal to one cycle per second |
| Infrared Waves | Waves that are longer than visible light waves |
| Longitudinal Waves | Motion of particles is back and forth parallel (horizontal) to the direction of the wave |
| Medium | A material through which a wave travels |
| Inference | Effect that occurs when 2 or more waves meet |
