Soil questions

QuestionAnswer
Which Materials make up soil? Water, air, inorganic matter, and organic matter.
What is the scientific name for Soil layers? Soil Horizon(s)
What are the names and characteristics of the three main soil layers? 1.) Horizon A | Topsoil- contains insoluble minerals and humus. 2.) Horizon B | Subsoil- contains soluble minerals and clay. 3.) Horizon C | Bedrock- contains larger rock fragments and solid rocks.
Why is soil important? Soil is important to plants, the water cycle, and can be used for energy production.
What can we do to help maintain the quality of our soils? Crop rotations, being careful with fertilizer and pesticides, reduce pollution.
