Weathering & Erosion

TermDefinition
Weathering The chemical or physical breakdown of rocks and mineral into smaller pieces or aqueous solutions on Earth's surface.
Mechanical Weathering The process of breaking big rocks into little ones.
Chemical Weathering The erosion of disintegration of rocks, building materials, caused by chemical reactions rather than by mechanical processes.
Soil The outer layer of Earth's crust in which plants can grow.
Organic Matter Anything that contains compounds that were formed by living organisms.
Erosion The removal of weathered rock material.
Roots A plant organ that takes in water and nutrients from the soil.
Topography Detailed mapping of the physical features of a small locale or area.
Deposit An amount of rock or soil that has been laid down in an area.
