| Term | Definition |

| Weathering | The chemical or physical breakdown of rocks and mineral into smaller pieces or aqueous solutions on Earth's surface. |
| Mechanical Weathering | The process of breaking big rocks into little ones. |
| Chemical Weathering | The erosion of disintegration of rocks, building materials, caused by chemical reactions rather than by mechanical processes. |
| Soil | The outer layer of Earth's crust in which plants can grow. |
| Organic Matter | Anything that contains compounds that were formed by living organisms. |
| Erosion | The removal of weathered rock material. |
| Roots | A plant organ that takes in water and nutrients from the soil. |
| Topography | Detailed mapping of the physical features of a small locale or area. |
| Deposit | An amount of rock or soil that has been laid down in an area. |
