Igneous Rock Rock that forms when magma cools and solidifies
Instrusive Rock formed from the cooling and solidifying of magma BENEATH the surface
Extrusive Rock that forms from the cooling and solidifying of lava AT the surface
Felsic Describes magma or igneous rock that is rich in feldspar and silica and this is generally light in color
Mafic Describes magma or igneous rock that is rich in magnesium and iron & is usually dark in color
Basalt Dark colored, fine grained igneous rock - commonly forms in small intrusive bodies & as an extrusive rock
Granite Forms from the slow crystallization of magma beneath Earths surface
Obsidian Color is green/black/dark brown & is amorphous
Pumice Fine grained & porous (lots of holes and crevices)
