TermDefinition
cell The basic unit of life.
unicellular An organism made of only one cell.
multicellular An organism made of many cells.
stimulus Anything that causes a reaction or change in an organism.
response How an organism reacts to a stimulus.
homeostasis How an organism maintains a stable internal environment based on a changing environment.
asexual reproduction An organism makes offspring by itself.
sexual reproduction Two organisms combine DNA to produce offspring.
DNA Deoxyribonucleic Acid. Blueprint of your cells.
heredity describes how our traits are passed from parents to offspring.
metabolism The total of all of the chemical activities that the organism performs.
growth An increase in size or mass
development How an organism changes as it grows
What are the 6 characteristics of living things? Made of cells, respond to stimuli, reproduce, have DNA, use energy, grow and develop
producer An organism that makes its own food through photosynthesis (usually a plant)
consumer An organism that must eat or consumer other organisms for energy.
decomposer An organism that gets its energy by breaking down and absorbing the nutrients in dead organisms.
