Light Waves Science

Light Waves

TermDefinition
Crest The high point of a wave.
Trough The low point of a wave.
Wavelength The distance between one trough and the next trough. Or the distance between two crests.
Frequency The number of waves (crests or troughs) that pass a point in a given amount of time.
Amplitude The distance between a waves mid-point and its crest of trough.
Transverse Waves A wave in which the crests and troughs move at right angles to the direction of the waves travel.
What is light Energy that you can see.
Reflection Is when light reflects off an object.
Refraction The bending of light as they enter a new medium (medium= anything that will be in the way of a light wave).
Color spectrum All the colors in ROYGBIV make up the color spectrum. Color is different frequencies of visible light.
ROYGBIV Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet
