extinct is dead or not living anymore
dormant has been asleep for along time but can wake up
active is living and alive

crater a large bowl in a volcano
vent is a large opening in a volcano where lava comes out
pipe is a horizontal opening where lava comes out
caldera a huge crater caused by the collapsing of the mouth of a volcano
hot spring is formed by heated groundwater coming up to the crust
geyser a hot spring that boils all the time and sometimes sends a tall column of water
compound a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements
element a substance that can't be decomposed into simpler subtances
