gene The basic unit of heredity.
heredity process by which characteristics pass from parent to offspring
life cycle All the stages an organism goes through from beginning of one generation to the beginning of the next.
metamorphosis A growth process in which an animal goes through major changes in body form over the course of the life cycle.
trait A characteristic that makes one organism different from another.
direct development A growth process in which an animal gets larger without going through major changes in body form.
