| 2.Lava | When magma reaches the surface |
| 3.Magma | A molten mixture of rock-forming substances, gases, and water from the mantle |
| 4.Ring of Fire | Many volcanoes that rim the Pacific Ocean |
| 5.Hot Spot | An area where material from deep within the mantel rises and the melts, forming magma |
| 6.Shield Volcano | When thin layers of lava pour out of a vent and make layers on top of one another until it slowing builds a wide, sloping moutain |
| 7.Composite Volcano | When ash, cinders, and bombs pile up around the vent, forming a steep, cone-shaped hill or mountain |

| 9.Sill | When magma squeezes between layers of rock and hardens |
| 10.Dike | When magma forces itself across rock layers and hardens |
| 11.Batholith | A large body of magma cools inside the crust |

| 13.Extinct | Unlikely to erupt again |

| 24.Crater | A bowl-shaped area that may form at the top of a volcano around the central vent |
| 25.Vent | The opening that molten rock and gas leave the volcano |
| 26.Pipe | A long tube in the ground that connects the magma chamber to Earth's surface |
| 27.Caldera | A hole left by the collapse of a volcanic mountain |
| 28.Hotspring | When ground water is heated by a nearby body of magma rises to the surface and collects in a natural pool |
