.Ring of Fire Many volcanoes that rim the Pacific Ocean
.Hot Spot An area where material from deep within the mantel rises and the melts, forming magma
.Shield Volcano When thin layers of lava pour out of a vent and make layers on top of one another until it slowing builds a wide, sloping moutain
.Composite Volcano When ash, cinders, and bombs pile up around the vent, forming a steep, cone-shaped hill or mountain
.Cinder Cone Volcano When ash, cinders, and bombs form alternating layers that build up into a tall, cone-shaped, mountain
.Sill When magma squeezes between layers of rock and hardens
.Dike When magma forces itself across rock layers and hardens
.Batholith A large body of magma cools inside the crust
.Lava Plateau When runny lava flows out of cracks of volcanoes and travel a long distance before it cools. Then after millions of years the layers build up over a large area
.Extinct Unlikely to erupt again
.Dormant Volcanoes that are quiet, but could awaken in the future
.Active Erupting or showing signs of erupting in the near future
.Element A substance that cannot be broken down
.Vicosity A measure of a resistance in a fluid
.Silica A substance that is in magma that makes magma different

.Volcanic Ash Fine, rocky speaks of ash made from a volcano
.Magma Chamber A pocket that collects magma in the volcano
.Crater A bowl-shaped area that may form at the top of a volcano around the central vent
.Vent The opening that molten rock and gas leave the volcano
.Pipe A long tube in the ground that connects the magma chamber to Earth's surface
.Caldera A hole left by the collapse of a volcanic mountain
.Hotspring When ground water is heated by a nearby body of magma rises to the surface and collects in a natural pool
