| Mercury | the planet that is closest to the sun |
| Venus | the planet that is second from the sun and the hottest |
| Earth | the planet that is third from the sun, has water in all three forms |
| Mars | the planet that is fourth from the sun, is red |
| Jupiter | the planet that is fifth from the sun, is the largest |
| Saturn | the planet that is sixth from the sun, is the lightest and the most moons |
| Neptune | the planet that the furthest from the sun |
| Uranus | the planet that is seventh from the sun, is dark with black rings |
| Pluto | used to be considered a planet |
| Sun | the star that the Earth moves around and that gives the Earth heat and light |
| Moon | the large round object that circles the Earth and that shines at night by reflecting light from the sun |
| temperature | a measurement that indicates how hot or cold something is |
| mass | a measure of the amount of matter in a solid, liquid, or gas |
| system | a group of related parts that move or work together |
| energy | ability to be active |
| model | a usually small copy of something |
| freshwater | relating to, or living in water that is not salty |
| characteristics | typical of a person, thing, or group |
| precipitation | water that falls to the ground as rain, snow, etc. |
| air temperature | a measurement of how hot or cold the air is |
| wind direction | the direction from which the wind is blowing |
| heat energy | a form of energy that is transferred by a difference in temperature. |
| weather | the state of the air and atmosphere at a particular time and place |
