| renewable | restored or replaced by natural processes |
| nonrenewable | not able to grow again or be made again |
| wetland | an area of land that is covered with shallow water like a swamp |
| weathering | to change in color, condition, etc. because of the effects of the sun, wind, rain, etc., over a long period of time |
| decomposition | breaking down once living plants and animals into smaller pieces |
| volcano | an opening in the Earth’s surface through which molten lava, ash, and gases escape; over time a mountain can be created |
| earthquake | shaking of the ground caused by the release of energy deep below the surface of the Earth |
| landslide | an event that happens when mud and rocks slide down a hill or mountain |
| flood | an event that happens when a body of water overflows onto land |
| conservation | the wise use of natural resources |
| energy | ability to cause movement or change |
| vibration | repeated back and forth motions |
| landform | a natural land shape on Earth’s surface |
| natural resource | something from Earth that we can use to make things we want or need |
| soil | the loose material that covers Earth’s surface made up of small pieces of rocks and once living things |
| hill | a small mound of land |
| mountain | the tallest landform on Earth; a large landform that rises up toward the sky |
| plains | a large, flat area of land that does not have many trees |
| valley | the low land between mountains |
| desert | an area of very dry land that is usually covered with sand and is very hot |
