| Term | Definition |

| continental glacier | a glacier that covers much of a continent or a large island |
| till | the sediments deposited directly by a glacier |
| moraine | a ridge formed by the till deposited at the edge of a glacier |
| kettle | a small depression that forms when a chunk of ice is left in glacial till |
| U-shaped valley | a steep-sided, flat-bottomed valley carved by glacial erosion |
| fiord | a long narrow arm of the sea bordered by steep cliffs formed by glacial erosion |
| headland | a part of the hard, rocky shore that sticks out into the ocean |
| sea stacks | a pillar of rock rising above the ocean; left behind when a sea arch collapses |
| longshore drift | the movement of sediment down a beach caused by waves coming in to shore at an angle |
| spit | a finger-like beach that projects out into the ocean; formed by longshore drift |
| deflation | the process by which wind removes surface materials |
| V-shaped valley | a narrow-bottomed valley with sloping sides; created by river erosion |
| basin | an area of low-lying land enclosed by higher land such as hills and mountains |
