| Term | Definition |

| Decompose | To break down into smaller, more basic parts |
| Soil | A mixture of sand, silt, clay, rock, plant and animal remains |
| Weathering | When forces on Earth break rocks apart or wear rock away |
| Earthquake | A sudden release of energy under Earth's surface that makes the ground shake or crack |
| Erupt | To break open suddenly |
| Landslide | A sudden adn rapid movement of rocks and soil down a slope |
| Volcano | A mountain or hill made by hot rocks and gasses moving to the surface of the Earth from deep inside the Earth |
| Hill | A land formation that is higher than the surrounding area |
| Landform | A feature on the surface fo the Earth that is not covered by water |
| Mountain | A large land formatoin that rises high above the surrounding area |
| Plain | A large area of land that is flat with no mountain, hill, or valleys |
| Valley | A low area between higher areas |
