| Temperature - a measure of kinetic energy. | Geosphere - the mostly solid, rocky part of Earth. |
| Thermal Expansion - The increase in volume that results from an increase in temperature. | Crust - the thin, solid outermost layer of the geosphere. |
| Heat - the energy that is transferred between objects that are at different temperatures. | Mantle - the hot layer of melted rock below the crust that gently moves. |
| Radiation - the transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves. Energy is transferred by not in direct contact with each other. | Core - the dense center layer of the Earth. |
| Convection - the transfer of energy due to the movement of matter. | Hydrosphere - all of the liquid water on Earth. |
| Conduction - the transfer of energy from one object to another object through direct contact. | Cryosphere - all of the frozen water on Earth. |
| Earth System - all of the matter, energy and processes within Earth’s boundary. | Atmosphere - mixture of mostly invisible gases that surrounds Earth. |
