Nervous System is composed of? Peripheral Nervous System and Central Nervous System
CNS is made up by the brain and spinal cord
PNS is composed of 12 pairs of cranial nerves, 31 pairs of spinal nerves, and the autonomic nervous system
Autonomic Nervous System is divided into the Sympothetic and Parasympathetic fibers
Neurons=transmits impulses Motor neurons=movement Sensory neurons=senstation
Neurons are composed of cell body=soma; short, branching processes=dentrite; a single axon
Dendrites synapses with another cell body, axon, or dendrite and brings in information to the cell body from other neurons
Efferent=impulses away from the cell body (GET AWAY FROM ME!) Afferent=impulses to the cell body (COME TO ME!)
Myelinated axons have a gap called the Nodes of Ranvier
Sodium and Cloride ions are heavily concentrated where? outside of the cell (interstitial space)
Potassium ions are heavily concentrated where? inside the cell
Depolarization (impulse conduction)= sodium diffuses through the membrane Repoloarization (return to baseline)= sodium is pumped out of the cell
