Testimonial Evidence DEFINITION What is said in court by a competent witness.
Testimonial Evidence EXAMPLE Eyewitness testimony, a DNA expert being called to testify about DNA evidence.
Class Evidence DEFINITION Evidence that points to a group of people, which can narrow down a suspect pool, but not to only 1 person.
Class Evidence EXAMPLE Blood type, hair color, sneaker size, height.
Individual Evidence DEFINITION Evidence that can be related to one single source.
Individual Evidence EXAMPLE Fingerprints, DNA, "puzzle piece" evidence
Biological Evidence DEFINITION Evidence from a living organism
Biological Evidence EXAMPLE Hair, blood, saliva, semen, bones
Trace Evidence DEFINITION Small pieces of evidence
Trace Evidence EXAMPLE Hair, fibers, gunshot residue
Conditional Evidence DEFINITION Circumstances of the crime scene that a person can change and must be noted by the 1st responding officer.
Conditional Evidence EXAMPLE The window was open, the door was unlocked, the body was face down in the living room, a table was overturned.
Transient Evidence DEFINITION Temporary evidence that can change on its own and must be noted by the 1st responding officer.
Transient Evidence EXAMPLE Odors (perfume, gasoline, burning tires), temperatures
Pattern Evidence DEFINITION Evidence that occurs when one object leaves marks on another object
Pattern Evidence EXAMPLE Rifling (scratches) on a fired bullet, tool marks in a door, fingerprints on a window
