Fingerprints

Fingerprint categories & subcategories

QuestionAnswer
Loop A print with 1 delta & 1 core, where ridges enter & exit the SAME side of the finger.
Whorl A print with 2 deltas & at least 1 core, where ridges typically come to a circle at the core.
Arch A print with no deltas or cores, where ridges enter one side of the finger & exit the other side of the finger.
Ulnar Loop A fingerprint pattern with 1 delta & 1 core where ridges enter & exit out the pinky side of the finger.
Radial Loop A fingerprint pattern with 1 delta & 1 core where ridges enter & exit out the thumb side of the finger.
Plain Arch A fingerprint pattern with no deltas or cores where ridges enter one side of the finger, make a small hill, and exit the other side of the finger.
Tented Arch A fingerprint pattern with no deltas or cores where ridges enter one side of the finger, make a steep hill, and exit the other side of the finger.
Plain Whorl A fingerprint pattern where ridges form a circle in the center, with 2 deltas equidistant from the core.
Central Pocket Whorl A fingerprint pattern where ridges form a circle in the center, with 1 delta very close to the core & 1 delta further away from the core.
Double Loop Whorl A fingerprint pattern with 2 deltas where 2 cores swirl around each other in the middle of the print.
Accidental Whorl A fingerprint pattern with 2 deltas that doesn't fit in any other subcategory for this type of print.
