Fingerprint categories & subcategories

| Loop | A print with 1 delta & 1 core, where ridges enter & exit the SAME side of the finger. |
| Whorl | A print with 2 deltas & at least 1 core, where ridges typically come to a circle at the core. |
| Arch | A print with no deltas or cores, where ridges enter one side of the finger & exit the other side of the finger. |
| Ulnar Loop | A fingerprint pattern with 1 delta & 1 core where ridges enter & exit out the pinky side of the finger. |
| Radial Loop | A fingerprint pattern with 1 delta & 1 core where ridges enter & exit out the thumb side of the finger. |
| Plain Arch | A fingerprint pattern with no deltas or cores where ridges enter one side of the finger, make a small hill, and exit the other side of the finger. |

| Double Loop Whorl | A fingerprint pattern with 2 deltas where 2 cores swirl around each other in the middle of the print. |
| Accidental Whorl | A fingerprint pattern with 2 deltas that doesn't fit in any other subcategory for this type of print. |
