| Extinction | When something is no longer in existence. |
| Paleontology | The study of ancient life, such as fossils. |
| Fossils | Remains or traces, like teeth marks, from years ago. |
| Unconformities | The lack of deposition or erosion. |
| Superposition | The idea that younger rock layers lay above older rock layers. |
| Relative Dating | Using superposition to figure out whether a rock is older or younger than the layers around it. |
| Absolute Dating | Using radiometric dating to determine the exact age of a rock. |
| Radiometric Dating | The method used to find the exact age of a rock. |
| Folding | When layers bend under pressure. |
| Tilting | When forces cause layers to become slanted. |
| Intrusion | A crack in the earth, that causes magma to seep out and form an intrusive igneous rock. |
