Chemical Digestion Breakdown of food by enzymes (saliva)
The mouth Carries out physical and chemical digestion
The oesophagus Moves food to the stomach
Liver Makes bile which breaks down fats
Pancreas Makes enzymes which digest food
1st part of small intestine Breakdowns the food
Stomach Hydrochloric acid softens the food and kills bacteria.
2nd part of small intestine Allows the food to be absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream.
Incisors Cut and slice food
Canines Grip and tear food
Premolars & Molars Chew, crush and grind food
Enzymes Proteins that speed up chemical reactions. substance produced= product substances acted on = substrate enzyme amylase acts on starch to produce a reducing sugar called maltose
