Scientific Method

Scientific Method Key Terms

TermDefinition
Scientific Method A way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments
Hypothesis Suggested answer to a question or problem
Theory Set of hypotheses that have been supported by testing over and over again.
Variable Anything that can affect the outcome of an experiment.
Independent Variable The variable that you (I) will be changing in the experiment.
Dependent Variable The variable that you will be measuring or observing during the experiment.
Controlled Variable The variable that you will be keeping the same during the experiment.
Constant Something that does not change.
Controlled Experiment Experiment in which all the conditions except one are kept constant.
