antianxiety agents

Alprazolam (Xanax) | An antianxiety medication and in the treatment of depression. Only available orally. |
Chlordiazepixide (librium) | Primarily used in alclhol w/d. Treatment for anxiety and as a pre-op sedative agent. |
Dizepam (Valium) | Used for anxiety, alcohol w/d, and sezure disorders. Used for sedation, and in adjuct for the relief of skeletal muscle spasms. Available orally and IV. |
Lorazepam (Ativan) | Used for anxiety disorders, and for short-term relief of snxiety. Used as a per-op sedative and to diminish pt recall. Shown to work in chemotherapy-related n/v. Used in the acute alcohol withdrawal. Available SL, orally and IV. (known by nurses as vit-a. |
