Landforms and Rocks

elevation height above sea level
plain a land form with flatland and low relief
mountain a land form with high elevation and high relief
plateau a land form that has high elevation and a more or less flat surface
mineral a natural inorganic solid with a crystal structure and definite chemical composition
rock cycle a series of processes on the surface and inside the earth that slowly changes rocks from one kind to another
sediment small, solid pieces of material from rocks or organisms; earth materials deposited by erosion
sedimentary rock a type of rock that forms when particles from other rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together
metamorphic rock a rock that forms when a rock is changed by heat, pressure and chemical reactions
