Density
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space |
| Define Density | Mass per unit volume; the amount of matter within a certain volume |
| What tools do we use to measure for density | Mass- triple beam balance : measured in grams Volume- liquid (ml) or an irregular shaped object (cm3). We use a graduated cylinder -Volume = solid square, use a ruler -Length* width*height= cm3 |
| Matter and Density | matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Density is the amount of matter within a certain volume. We use a triple beam balance to find mass, a graduated cylinder to find volume of a liquid and a ruler to find the volume of a square object. |
| How do we figure out the density of an object | 1. Find the mass of the object 2. Find the volume of the object 3. Divide Density = mass/volume |
| What is the formula used for finding density | Density = mass(g)/volume (cm3) --units for density g/cm3 --grams per cube centimeter |
| List the steps for solving density | 1) D = m/v 2) D =35g/7cm3 = 35/7 3D = 5g/cm3 |
| Solve Density problem | To solve a density problem, first you have to find the mass of an object (grams) then the volume (cm3) and divide. the units for density are grams per cubic centimeter |
| Why do liquids with different densities form layers | The liquids with the highest density will be on the bottom ex. honey, syrup -The liquids withe the largest density will be on teh top ex/ Vegetable oil |
