TermDefinition
Crust The outermost solid layer of Earth.
Mantle Located between the core and crust. Hot, slow flowing rock.
Core Solid iron and nickle center of the Earth, located below the mantle.
Convection Movement of matter in a circular motion. Warm rises, cool sinks.
Lithosphere Outermost, rigid layer of Earth. This is the tectonic plates. The crust and upper part of the mantle.
Asthenosphere Tectonic plates float on this. Made of rock that flows slowly.
Mesosphere Lower part of the mantle
Outer core Liquid layer of Earth's core.
Inner core Solid, dense center of Earth.
