| electromagnetic spectrun | All types of electromagnetic radiation, arranged according to wavelength and frequency, form the electromagnetic spectrum. |
| refracting telescope | Telescope invented in 1608. Uses lenses to bring visible light to a focus. |
| reflecting telescope | Telescope invented in 1668. Uses mirrors to focus light. |
| interferometry | Technique that uses the images from several telescopes to produce a single image. |
| albedo | The percentage of incoming sunlight that a surface reflects. |
| highland | Heavily cratered regions that are light in color and mountainous. |
| mare | Regions which are dark with relatively smooth plains. |
| impact crater | Craters on the moon. Formed when objects from space crash into the lunar surface. |
| ejecta | Material that was blasted out and fell back to the Moon's surface is called ejecta. |
