Vocab Terms

TermDefinition
Solar system The sun and all the planets and other bodies that travel around it
Galaxy A collection of star and dust and gas bound together
Planet A relatively large spherical body that orbits a star
Light year The distance that lights travels in one year about 9.4 trillion kilometers
Star A large celestial body that is composed of gas and that emits light
Universe Space and all the matter and energy in it
Apparent magnitude A measure of how bright a star would be if it were to be seen from distance
Luminosity The actual brightness of an object such as a star
Absolute magnitude A measure of bright a star would be if it were to seen form a standard distance
