Practices Used by Scientists

TermDefinition
Data Facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis.
Scientific Model A systematic description of an object or phenomenon that shares important characteristics with the object or phenomenon.
Scientific Inquiry The diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from their work.
Analysis Detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or interpretation.
Computational Thinking The thought processes involved in formulating a problem and expressing its solution(s) in such a way that a computer—human or machine—can effectively carry out.
Phenomenon A fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question.
Argument A reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong.
Evidence The available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.
