TermDefinition
Weathering the breaking down of materials such as rocks and minerals by physical, chemical or biological processes.
Erosion The movement of sediment or soil from one location to another by means of water, wind or ice.
Deposition When particles carried by water, ice or wind are deposited or dropped in another location.

Metamorphic Forms when high temperature and pressure change the rock.
Uplift Rising of Earth's crust. Exposes rock to weathering and erosion
Subsidence Sinking of Earth's crust. Can lead to basins where sediment can be deposited.
Rift Zone Where tectonic plates are pulling apart. Great Rift Zone in Africa.
Rock Cycle Rocks can change from one type to another over time. Heat, pressure, weathering and erosion can change rocks.
Compaction Weight from above that squeezes rock together.
Cementation Minerals that dissolve in water and 'glue' sediment together.
