| Answer | Definition |
|---|---|
| Aquatic | Relating to water. |
| Autotrophs | Organisms that make their own food. (producers) |
| Biomass | The total mass of living matter in a given unit which can be converted to energy. |
| C6 H12 06 | The products of photosynthesis. |
| Carbon Dioxide | Plants need this for photosynthesis. |
| Carnivore | Organism that obtains energy by eating animals. |
| C02 + H20 | The reactants of photosynthesis. |
| Consumers | Organisms that eat living producers and/or other consumers for food. (Hetertrophs) |
| Decomposers | Organisms that break down the remains of other organisms such as bacteria and fungi. |
| Detritus | Wastes and remains of dead organisms. |
| Energy | The ability to do work. In an ecosystem, the ultimate source of energy is the sun. |
| Food Chain | Simple model that shows how matter and energy move through |
| Food Web | A diagram that shows ALL of the feeding relationships between organisms in an ecosystem. |
| Herbivores | An organism that eats only plants. (Primary consumers) |
| Hetertrophs | Consumers, they relay on other organisms for their energy and food supply. (Consumers) |
| Omnivores | An organism that eats both plants and animals. |
| Photosynthesis | Process by which producers use the sun's energy to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugars. |
| Producer | An organism that makes its own food from photosynthesis. (plants, algae, plankton, ect.) |
| Secondary Consumers | An organism that eats primary consumers. |
| Sugar | Plants produce this in photosynthesis. |
| Terrestrial | Relating to the land. |
| Third Level Consumer | Animals that eat secondary consumers. |
| Trophic Levels | Each energy level in a food web or food chain. |
