| Term | Definition |

| Hypothesis | an educated guess to a question in science |
| Independent Variable | its what "I" changed in each trial (hot, ice, and room temperature water) |
| Dependent Variable | the "D"ata (the result ) (the percent of sugar that dissolved) |
| Constant(s) | the things we do the same in every trial (stirred 10 times) |
| Inference | what you do when you arrive at a conclusion by making observations and using previous knowledge |
| Qualitative | this describes the size, shape, color, or texture of an object and will often be adjectives |
| Quantitative | this describes a quantity, anything about the object that can be counted or measured. It will always be a number. |
| earthquakes | a series of vibrations induced in the earth's crust by the abrupt rupture and rebound of rocks in which elastic strain has been slowly accumulating. |
| crust | the outermost layer of a planet. |
| fault | a defect or imperfection; flaw; failing: |
| mantle | the portion of the earth between the crust and the core. |
| lithosphere | the solid portion of the earth |
| lithospheric plates | lithospheric plates are regions of Earth's crust and upper mantle that are fractured into plates that move across a deeper plasticine mantle |
