Lab safety, scientific method, and metric system

| scientific method | a series of steps that scientist use to answer questions and solve problems |
| hypothesis | a possible explanation or answer to a question |
| controlled experiment | an experiment that tests only one variable at a time |
| variable | a factor in a control experiment that changes |
| theory | a unifying explanation for a broad range of hypotheses and observations that have been supported by experimentation |
| technology | the application of knowledge, tools, and materials to solve problems and accomplish tasks, technology can also refer to the objects used to accomplish tasks |
| compound light microscope | a microscope that consists of a tube with lenses, a stage, and a light source |
| electron microscope | a microscope that uses tiny particles of matter to produce magnified images |
| area | the measure of how much surface an object has |
| volume | the amount of space that something occupies or the amount of space that something contains |
| mass | the amount of matter that something is made of |
| temperature | a measure of how hot or cold something is |
