| Air pressure | force of gas molecules pushing against Earth’s surface due to gravity’s pull |
| Barometer | instrument used to measure air pressure |
| Front | a boundary separating two air masses |
| Inches of Mercury | units used for air pressure when using a mercury barometer |
| Isobar | line on a map connecting points of equal air pressure |
| Isotherm | line on a map connecting points of equal temperature |
| Millibars | unit used for air pressure when using an aneroid barometer |
| Maritime Polar | a moist, cold air mass |
| Maritime Tropical | a moist, warm air mass |
| Continental Polar | a dry, cold air mass |
| Continental Tropical | a dry, warm air mass |
| Cold Front | when a cold air mass advances and wedges under a warm air mass, lifting it along a steep slope; produces severe storms |
| Warm Front | when a warm air mass moves up and over a cold air mass ahead of it along a gentle slope; produces steady, widespread precipitation |
| Stationary Front | where a cold and warm air mass meet but don't move; brings several days of cloudy, wet weather |
| Occluded Front | occur where there are 3 air masses that create two fronts; can produce severe storms, like a cold front |
