Scientific Models

Chapter 1.3; Types of Scientific Models

QuestionAnswer
Model A pattern, plan, representation or description designed to show the structure or workings of an object, system, or concept.
Physical Model Model you can touch, but they have limitations in accuracy. Such as a model car or a model of an atom.
Mathematical Model Constructed from mathematical equations and data to calculate or prediction information, such as population growth or weather patterns.
Conceptual Model Is a system of ideas or comparisons that support an idea such as the Big Bang Theory.
Theory An explanation that ties together many hypothesis and observations.
Climate Model Using mathematical model scientists are able to input data and predict climate patterns.
