decomposer breaks down dead organisms and returns their nutrients to the soil (Ex: mushrooms, fungi, bacteria, worms)
omnivore eats both plants and animals
herbivore only eats plants
carnivore only eats meat
consumer eats food to survive
producer makes its own food through photosynthesis (from the sun)
predator an animal that eats another animal
prey an animal that is being hunted or eaten
ecosystem all the living things in an area and their habitat
habitat the natural environment of a plant or animal
abiotic factors nonliving things such as sunlight, soil, and rainfall
biotic factors pertaining to life or living things
community all the plants and animals that live together in the same area
population a group of animals of the same kind that live in a place
organism an individual living thing, such as a plant, an animal, or bacterium
