| Energy Transformation | when one form of energy changes into another |
| Energy | the ability to do work or cause change |
| Thermal Energy | movement of atoms in something that causes heat |
| Mechanical Energy | energy created by the physical movement of something |
| Electricity | flow of electrical power or charge |
| Electromagnetic Energy | energy that comes from electromagnetic radiation; this type of energy moves through waves |
| Nuclear Energy | energy stored in the nucleus of an atom |
| Chemical Energy | energy stored in bonds of atoms and molecules; released or absorbed during a chemical reaction |
| Static Electricity | electricity that collects on the surface of something and does not flow as a current; can cause mild shock |
| Circuit | complete path that an electric current travels along |
| Magnet | a piece of material (such as iron or steel) that is able to attract certain materials |
| Poles | two ends of any magnet |
| Attract | to draw in by physical force |
| Repel | to push away by force |
| Wave | disturbance that transfers energy from place to place |
| Medium | material through which a wave travels |
| Reflection | incoming light wave or sound wave bounces off the object at an equal but opposite angle; bouncing back off an object or wave |
| Refraction | wave changes direction as it passes from one medium to another; bending of waves as they enter a new medium at an angle |
| Echo | a reflected sound wave |
| Absorption | occurs when incoming light energy is converted to heat in the object |
