TermDefinition
Nature How do genetics influence the way you are?
Nurture How does your raising/environment influence the way you are
Cross-Sectional studies Often examines changes in similar groups at different ages. Also compare groups from different backgrounds.
Longitudinal study Correlational research study that involves repeated observations of the same variables over long periods of time, often many decades.
Zygote first stage of development (sperm penetrates egg) consists of rapid cell division
Embryo Zygote becomes this after 2 weeks (beating heart)
Fetus develops after 6 months. They have stomachs and organs
Chemical agents that can harm prenatal environment (alcohol, drugs,STDs) Teratogens
Primary sexual characteristics Parts that make sexual reproduction possibly (penis, testicles, ovaries, uterus)
Secondary sexual characteristics Associated with sexual attraction, but are not essential for reproduction (widening hips, deepening voice, more hair
Schema the way we interpret the world around us
Pre conventional Morality Morality based on reward or punishment (If you’re rewarded its ok, if you’re punished its not ok)
Conventional Morality Look at morality based on ow others see it (If society thinks its wrong then so do you)
Post conventional morality Based on self defined ethical principles (own personal set of ethics)
Crystallized Intelligence knowledge increases with age , accumulated knowledge
Fluid intelligence ability to think outside the box or abstractly; decreases after 20’s
Type A personality Easily angered, competitive, aggressive
Type B personality laid back, passive, relaxed
Developmental Psychology The study of psychological processes throughout a person's life (womb to tomb)
