About how many different discovered organisms are there? 1.5-2 million.
Why is classification important? For understanding how organisms are related and how they are different.
What is Taxonomy? The branch of biology that studies the grouping and naming of organisms.
Who classified all life as being either plants or animals? Aristotle.
Who is the father of Taxonomy? Carolus/Carles Linnaeus.
How are organisms classified? Appearance, Behavior, & Molecular Structure (DNA).
What is common among organisms that share more similarities? They are more closely related and are grouped together.
Who used Latin for the names for his categories? Linnaeus.
What are the 7 levels of classification? Species, Genus, Family, Order, Class, Phylum, Kingdom.
What are the 6 kingdoms of life? Animalia, Plantae, Archaeabacteria, Eubacteria, Protista, Fungi
Why is there a universal system for naming organisms and what is it called? Binomial Nomenclature; because scientists speak many different languages.
What is the Binomial Nomenclature for humans? Homo sapiens.
What is the Binomial Nomenclature for a largemouth bass? Micropterus salmoides.
What are the 3 domains? Bacteria, Archae, Eukarya.
What is a dichotomous key? A tool used to identify organisms.
What are the kingdoms for bacteria? Eubacteria.
What are the kingdoms for Archae? Archaebacteria.
What are the kingdoms for Eurkarya? Plantae, Protista, Fungi, Animalia.
Which kingdoms of life are multicellular, eukaryotic? Plantae, Animalia, Fungi.
Which kingdoms of life are unicellular,prokaryotic? Eubacteria, Archaebacteria.
What are the classifications of the Protista kingdom? Eukaryotic, unicellular, and multicellular. (can't be classified)
What do bacteria cells walls have? Peptidoglycan.
