Alternative Energy

Renewable energy sources Cause minimal pollution, don't cause global warming, and are locally available and easily replenished
Wind Power Uses wind to turn turbines to generate electicity
Solar electric (active solar) Can generate electricity from the electromagnetic energy in sunlight using solar panels
Solar thermal (passive solar) Heat from the sun is used to heat water, houses, and pools
Solar cookers Uses heat energy from the sun to cook food
Hydroelectic Power Making electricity from releasing water through dams to spin turbines
Tidal/Wave Power Making electricity from the movement of ocean water (tides or waves that move turbines)
Geothermal Tapping into the heat trapped beneath the earth for heat energy or to generate electicity
Biomass Burning crops such as corn or organisms like algae in order to generate electricity
Hydrogen fuel cell Generate electricity by hydrogen and oxygen making water
