| Term | Definition |

| Water | A compound made of hydrogen and oxygen |
| Hydrosphere | All water on in or above the surface of the earth |
| Tributary | Place where water is stored |
| Watershed | A place where land runs into some kind of body of water |
| Surface Water | Water on the surface of the earth |
| Groundwater | Water stored below earths surface in the soil and rocks |
| Aquifer | A rock layer with water stored in it |
| Water cycle | the movement of water between the land the ocean and the sky |
| Evaporation | When a liquid turns to a gas |
| Transpiration | When water is released from leaves on trees |
| Condensation | When a gas turns to liquid |
| Precipitation | When liquid falls from clouds (rain, snow, sleet, etc.) |
| Infiltration | When water penetrates the ground |
| Runoff | When rain water runs off a hill or mountain into a lake or stream |
| Porosity | How wet something is |
| Density | Mass/Volume=Density |
| Universal Solvent | A substance that is able to dissolve almost all other substances |
