| Half-Life | Amount of time it takes for half of a radioactive substance to decay |
| Absolute Age | Actual age stated in a certain amount of time: example: Ms. Crouse is 35 years old. |
| Superposition | Principle that sedimentary rocks on the bottom are older than layers on the top of a sequence |
| Absolute Dating | Finding the actual age of a rock |
| Original Horizontal | Idea that all sedimentary rocks were deposited in flat layers |
| Carbon 14 Dating | Using this radioactive material found in all organisms an absolute age can be determined |
| Isotopes | Unstable form of an element: radioactive element |
| Extrusion | Igneous rock that flows out onto the surface and then cools: volcanic |
| Geologic Time Scale | Age and events that happened on Earth put on a "geologic calendar" |
| Inclusions | rock Fragments found included in another rock: older than the rock they are found in |
| Volcanic Ash Layers | Marker beds produced by deposition from volcanic eruptions. |
