| Theory Evolution | Idea that organisms change over time into amore complex form |
| Intrusion | When Magma squeezes up into solid rock |
| Marker Beds | Sedimentary rock layers that are easily identified and found in other locations which aid in correlation |
| Extinct | Plant or organism that no longer exists |
| Out Gassing | Gasses that are given off from volcanoes |
| Radioactive Dating | Using an unstable element's rate of decay to calculate the age of a rock or fossil |
| Contact Metamorphism | Changing of the rock structure from extreme heat due to an igneous intrusion |
| Index Fossils | Organic remains from a something that was widespread but the species lived for a short period of time. |
| Correlation | Finding two separate rocks are the same age using fossils, rock type or age |
| Unconformity | Buried erosional surface: rocks missing from erosion and then buried by other rocks. |
