| Tertiary Consumers | Third level or top consumers |
| Population | group of same species living together |
| Community | group of multiple species living together |
| Adaptation | organism changes in order to survive in environment |
| predator | hunter |
| prey | hunted for food |
| secondary consumer | carnivores eats other consumers |
| sun | source of energy for all living things |
| ecosystem | all of the biotic and abiotic factors interacting in an envoronment |
| producers | make own food |
| omnivore | eats plants and animals |
| carrying capacity | the amount of organisms that an environment can support |
| decomposers | organisms that break down dead organisms back down into nutrients and soil |
| parasite | an organism that gets it's nourishment by stealing it from a host organism. |
| habitat | area where an animal lives that provides it with food, shelter and others of its kind |
| biosphere | the parts of the hydrosphere, the earth's surface and the atmosphere containing living things |

| 10% rule | an organism only passes on about 10% of its energy to it's consumer |
| autotroph | makes own food |
