Igneous Rock When hot magma cools and hardens
Lava When magma reaches Earth's surface and flows from volcanoes
Intrusive Rocks that form from magma below the surface
Extrusive Rocks formed as lava cools on the surface of Earth
Basaltic Igneous rocks are dense, dark colored rocks
Granitic Igneous rocks are light colored rocks of a lower density than basaltic rocks
Sediment Loose materials such as rock fragments, mineral grains, and bits of shell that have been moved by wind, water, ice, or gravity.
Sedimentary rock Sediments that are pressed and cemented together, or when minerals form from solutions
Compaction Process that forms sedimentary rock when layers of sediments are compressed by the weight of the layers above them
Cementation Sedimentary rock-forming process in which sediment grains are held together by natural cements that are produced when water moves through rock and soil
