Ecosystem the community of organisms and their abiotic (nonliving) environment
Carbon Cycle the movement of carbon from the nonliving environnment into living things and back
Photosynthesis the process by which green plants use energy from sunlight to produce sugar and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water
Respiration the process in which an organism uses oxygen for its life processes and gives off carbon dioxide
Decomposition the breakdown of dead organism and organic wastes which releases carbon dioxide and water into the atmosphere
Combustion the process of burning fuels which releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
Nitrogen Cycle the movement of nitrogen from the nonliving environment into living things and back again
Nitrogen Fixation the process in which bacteria or lightning change nitrogen gas into a form that plants can use
Biodiversity the variety of living things in a given area
Deforestation the process of clearing forests
