abiotic All of the non-living things in an ecosystem
Chemical Change A change in the chemical composition of a substance caused by rearranging of atoms.
Compound A molecule or substance containing two or more different elements
convection energy transferred by the circular motion of liquids & gases.
divergent boundary A plate boundary where two plates move away from each other.
hurricane rotating low pressure area that forms over warm oceans and produces heavy rains & strong winds.
light year The distance light can travel in one year. This is used to measure huge distances in space like the distance between stars or galaxies.
metalloid Elements that sit on or just below the stair step line. They have properties of both metals and nonmetals.
nebula A large area of dust and gas where new stars are forming.
photosynthesis Process where producers use energy from sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
producer Organisms that produce energy through photosynthesis that support the entire food chain. Grasses, plants, trees, bushes, etc.
products The substances that are produced in a chemical reaction. Located on the right side of the equation.
Radiation transfer of thermal energy through matter or space as electromagnetic waves
reactants The chemicals that are reacting together in a chemical reaction. Located on the left side of the equation.
valence electron The electrons located farthest from the nucleus that determines how chemically reactive the atom will be.
